An International Taste

One of the best parts about our trip to Aruba was getting to sample the local restaurants. With the help of our trusty Aruba Menu guide we chose different styles of restaurants every night so that we left our vacation getting a good taste of the country.

One of our first nights out we went to a place called Salt & Pepper. The specialty here was Tapas, which always makes for an interesting night of different foods. We each selected a couple of items from the menu to share between us. Our choices for the evening (can't remember who picked what): Bruschetta, S&P Dip (spinach dip), black olive tapanade, battered Mahi Mahi, and swordfish.

After our long day of touring the island via jeep, we decided to take it easy for dinner and went to Pizza Bob's across the street from our hotel. We had a delicious chicken barbecue pizza.

They even wrapped up our leftovers in a beautiful aluminum swan.

Our next great dinner was my choice. I found this place from recommendations on Tripadvisor.com (which I suggest to anyone planning a trip). From the outside Madame Janette's looked like a house, but inside it was a very nice restaurant. For dinner I had the Burgerloin, an Argentinean prime cut, with onions and mushrooms, cheese and Bearnaise sauce. I must say....it was excellent.

And for the Grand Finale on our last night, we went to restaurant in downtown called Matilde. It was a very charming place with the decor including video screens of famous art pieces. A very state-of-the-art meets old world style. The service was impeccable and the food was absolutely gastronomy at it's best. We started off the evening with an appetizer of Beef Carpaccio. For dinner, I ordered the Chateaubriand Bearnaise with double baked potato, roasted tomato, bearnaise sauce, and red wine sauce. I can't even describe how excellent the dinner was.

And for dessert, we ordered Crepes Suzette Negresco, which is made table-side with orange liqueur sauce, flamed with cognac, and served with vanilla ice-cream. After our huge entree I didn't think I would have room for dessert, but when something this delicious is put in front of you.... you'd be stupid not to eat up.
